The title All That is Left is a play on the "Litany Against Fear" from Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune. “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it is gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” I will be all that is left.

Program Notes
I wrote All That Is Left during my sabbatical from teaching in the fall of 2022. The piece was premiered the following spring by Hamiruge – The LSU Percussion Group. After living through the pandemic of 2020 and my mother’s suicide in 2021, it finally dawned on me that I had been living most of my life in a state of fear. The title of the composition is a play on the "Litany Against Fear" from Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune.
