Program Notes
This free setting of the hymn song “What Wondrous Love Is This” was written in request to a call from the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) for member composers to submit a chorale with the intent that the work be accessible to the wide variety of wind bands throughout the world. Interspersing and developing original material with the hymn, Wondrous Love focuses on the variety of tonal colors and instrumental textures possible with the wind band. While technically awritten for younger ensembles, the expressive quality of the music makes Wondrous Love appropriate for bands at all levels.
