Psalm – A Stronghold Sure depicts through music, the thoughts contained in Psalm 46, or Luther's Psalm - A Mighty Fortress is Our God. Two themes are presented in musical terms throughout the work. The first in Bb is a unifying motif used consistently; the other motifs are developed during the work and present opportunity for soloists.
